We fell in love with this uber-cool, eco friendly, wearable art collection of couture tees the minute we laid eyes on it! So we just had to get to know the talented designer behind the brand. Meet Shirin Roubeni.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE THESE BEAUTIES?
I love the process of print making and I have a passion for textiles. These collections are a perfect creative outlet for me.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
IF WE WERE VISITING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST FOR US TO SEE, DO, EAT AND SHOP?
See the Brooklyn Art Library. Home to The Sketchbook Project, a great chance to see how different artists get inspired.
Do Brooklyn Bridge Movie Night on a perfect summer night with the perfect view.
Eat at Bakeri. My favorite place to satisfy my sweet tooth.
Shop at Future Perfect, an ubercool design store.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT YOUR COLLECTION?
I work with good quality organic fabrics, eco-friendly printing processes and support local manufacturing companies.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE IN THE COLLECTION?
The brown tee with bronze metallic floral print and ruffle sleeve detail.
WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED?
After having a rather dramatic reaction to yet another setback, my Dad sat me down and said "This is what it means to be an entrepreneur. You have to toughen up a little and not take the pitfalls too seriously. Just go about your business slowly and methodically and you will get there."
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED THIS BUSINESS?
After graduating from Parsons School of Design, I did decorative painting commissions, but I was really interested in studying printed textiles so I went to learn the skills at the Royal College of Arts in London.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
FIVE THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT?
My crossword puzzle, my afternoon coffee, my chocolate fix, my ballet flats and, most of all, skiing.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BRAND IN FIVE YEARS?
A lifestyle brand, venturing out into home and interiors.
Thanks Shirin! Three kisses Chelsea, Rachel and Diana
