We are always looking for good design and stylish furniture for our little clients. We definitely have our favorites and Nurseryworks is one of them. With its high gloss finishes and uber stylish new additions, it is the perfect choice for clients looking for a little "GLAM" in the nursery. Meet Founder Traci Fleming.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START NURSERYWORKS?
At the time I started Nurseryworks, the nursery was a room that had not been reinvented in a very long while – if ever! I felt it was time, and envisioned an environment where clean, simple and modern furnishings would create a new vision for babies and kids. Not soon after, it became clear that modern furnishings and environments were not just a trend, but rather a movement. It was so exciting to be at the forefront of such a movement!
WE ARE CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH THE TREE BOOKCASE. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE FROM THE COLLECTION?
The Tree Bookcase IS great – I actually have it on my front porch and use it as my answer to the “holiday flag”, which I am not so fond of. My kids decorate it for Easter, Valentines Day, Summer or with whatever artwork they have created. But it can also hold over 100 books, so it is super functional. My favorite piece from our collection is our new Vetro Crib. It is a 100% recyclable acrylic crib – the first of its kind in the market. We have tested it with babies and they feel so comfortable and safe in it because they can see their parents and their surroundings.
WHAT SHOULD OUR READERS KNOW ABOUT NURSERYWORKS THAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?
We marry great design with functionality, longevity and safety. Those 3 elements are key to the parents’ decision-making process and I feel that Nurseryworks has them all covered, so it makes the decision easier!
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I live in South Pasadena, CA. It is an idyllic community and our walk to school is 5 minutes long.
IF WE WERE VISITING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST FOR US TO SEE/DO/EAT/SHOP?
Eat – the yummy organic foods and produce at the weekly Thursday Farmer’s Market AND Fiore Market Cafe – they have the best salads and cinnamon raisin bread. My kids love the bread toasted with butter.
Do – I love to stop by the San Pasqual Stables and watch the riders take lessons and visit with the horses that live there – it transports me to my childhood, as I used to ride. My goal is to start riding again soon.
WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU RECEIVED?
Never leave for tomorrow what you can accomplish today…as a result, I am rarely a procrastinator, unless it is to schedule a dentist appointment!
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED NURSERYWORKS?
I was Chief Operating Officer at Citysearch.com, an Arts and Entertainment guide for cities. It was really exciting to work in the internet business from its start….but eventually I longed to work on a tangible product, and soon after, Nurseryworks was born.
WHAT/WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
My two children. 1st Dibs. And my daily digest of design blogs – there are about 50 that I look to for inspiration.
FIVE THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT.
Reading at bedtime to my two children – Piper (8) and Mason (6). Peonies. Flea Market shopping – I love the hunt! My annual trip to Charleston, SC. Flip flops – I’m lucky to live in a place where I can wear them year round!
