You all know by now that we love liberty prints. They just make us happy. Namhee has somehow found a way to make liberty prints even prettier!
Meet Namhee, the founder of Namhee NYC and one of a kind art for little ones.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE NAMHEE?
I started out working with items that people had discarded that I thought were beautiful and still had a lot left to offer. So I would try and give them new life and turn them into something really unique. From there it just kept progressing and it's led me here.
WE LOVE LIBERTY PRINTS AND THE WAY YOU MARRY THE FABRIC WITH VINTAGE PIECES. THE BIRD HOOKS ARE ONE OF OUR FAVORITES. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PEICE FROM THE COLLECTION?
My favorite piece is the vintage floor lamp you see on my website. I rescued this lamp from a flea market in midtown in the spring a few years ago. I dressed my lamp in new clothes and found the right bulb to match his personality.
WHAT SHOULD OUR READERS KNOW ABOUT NAMHEE THAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?
Every piece I make is made individually and I make each piece for a specific customer.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I live in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It’s a great neighborhood full of artists of all types as well as young entrepeneurs and designers.
IF WE WERE VISITING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST FOR US TO SEE/DO/EAT/SHOP?
I would recommend walking around the neighborhood and checking out the old factories that have all been converted. Also visit some of the really great galleries as there are so many cool artists here. Afterwards I'd say to head over to Vinegar Hill House, my favorite restaurant.
WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU RECEIVED?
When people tell me how much they love my work and to keep going. When I first started and still now, I've never known what people's reaction would be and if they'd like it or not.
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED NAMHEE?
I was a commercial interior designer for fashion companies in Seoul for about 10 years before moving to the states. Once my two boys were a little bigger I decided to start my project.
WHO/WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
I find inspiration from vintage objects that I see here and there. I see real beauty in them. It's why I worked so hard to convince my mother to give me some of the incredible things she's had and used for over fifty years in her home!
FIVE THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT.
My boys, my husband, my work, beer and Korean food.
