We have so much luv for these soft sculptures. Works of art, one of a kind, and unique. Just looking at them makes us smile.
Meet Heidi Iverson and see why creating these beauties is what makes her happy.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE HLUV?
The desire and the necessity to make wonderment and soft sculpture.
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED HLUV?
I was a starving artist doing production pottery and working as a line cook.
WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU RECEIVED?
Using your skills and knowledge, do something that makes you happy.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR HLUV?
Adventure! Right now, I'm working on some paintings and collages.
WE HAVE SO MANY FAVORITES, THE MUSHROOM BEING ONE OF THEM. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PIECES FROM THE COLLECTION RIGHT NOW?
The mushrooms are one of my favorites too. I think I have 30 different patterns for them and I'm always drawing new ones. They make me so happy.
I really love the trees right now. I've been playing around with building tiny forests and inhabiting them with enchantment. I love the idea of making your own world.
I will always love the rabbits too, embroidering their faces always makes me happy.
WHAT SHOULD OUR READERS/CLIENTS KNOW ABOUT HLUV THAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?
I make everything by hand in my studio. I'm always collecting fabric and finding pieces to repurpose. I can have anywhere from 1/2 yard to 10 yards of a certain fabric. When it's gone, it's gone. I think it helps keep things fresh. It also helps my color palette evolve and stay more dynamic.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
I live in Northern California in a tiny redwood forest about 30 minutes from the coast. It's magical.
IF WE WERE VISITING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST FOR US TO SEE/DO/EAT/SHOP?
Oh where to start? I live in Western Sonoma County and it is full of really great wineries, restaurants, lots of beautiful shops, so much hiking and the ocean.
There are three places I would list for sure. We would go to Wildflower Bakery in Freestone to get the best scones and perfect lattes, then go walk in their gardens and sit in the sunshine. Next, Iron Horse Vineyards for sparkling wine. And finally, we would visit The Casino Bar & Grill in Bodega for an outstanding dinner in a wonderfully casual and unique atmosphere.
WHAT/WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
My 95 year-old grandmother. She taught me how to sew, crochet, garden, and make cookies. She is one of the most amazing women I have ever met. My brother built her a computer for her 85th birthday so she could e-mail us and she hasn't stopped emailing since.
FIVE THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT
My sketch book and favorite pencil. Something to knit. Cookies. My cats (Mssr. Le Pouf, Wampa and Little Girl). And the best anime movie ever: My Neighbor Totoro.
