Sweet dreams! We are over the moon about this dreamy, whimsical, and magical collection of handmade goodies from Creme Anglaise. Meet Emilie, owner and designer of this gorgeous collection of beauties for little ones.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE CREME ANGLAISE?
Mael, my son, is the starting point for all of this. So thanks to him. Also, my husband because without him I would have never done it and my very good friend Marion who I was once going to open a shop with. And last Julie, from BOBO Kids London, because she was the first to believe in me and she still does.
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED CREME ANGLAISE?
Just before Creme Anglaise, I was a children’s wear fashion designer for an English brand based in London. I was a student at the London College of Fashion before that and I was very lucky to find a job upon finishing school. I was always very inspired by what children do and what I could make for them to have a memorable childhood.
WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU RECEIVED?
The best advice that I received, and the one that I would give, is to believe very strongly in what you do and jump on every opportunity that comes to you (even if life could start to be crazy and full). I always think that if I work really hard something good will come of it, even if it is not right away.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR CREME ANGLAISE?
I will never stop having new ideas in my head so, of course, more and more will come. What we would really like to do is to create a children’s furniture line, including the moon bed and the rocking bird. I already have many ideas but I just have to find a way and the time to make them with my husband.
WE HAVE SO MANY FAVORITES, BUT WE ARE CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH THE MOON BED AND YOUR BIRDS. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PIECES FROM THE COLLECTION RIGHT NOW?
The same actually! The bed is our masterpiece and we are so happy to see our little daughter Heidi sleeping peacefully on it! She is so cute and cozy. The birds are the things that I like to do the most at the moment because it's so creative. Soon another idea might pop out of my head and I will probably want to do 10 of them with all the different fabrics that I have. It always starts like that.
WHAT SHOULD OUR READERS/CLIENTS KNOW ABOUT CREME ANGLAISE THAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?
Everything is made with all our love and we really care about what our clients say about our products. We want to make people feel that these are not just products made for money but products made to give a nice atmosphere to a kid’s universe. Let's give them something very peaceful before they start to be stressed about life as an adult.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
We are back in France for a year now and we live in sunny Toulouse, where we met! We love it, even though we sometimes miss our friends back in London and what London has to offer. But we have no regrets and our kids love being here and seeing their grandparents.
IF WE WERE VISITING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST FOR US TO SEE/DO/EAT/SHOP?
Toulouse is a very nice city, not too big, not too small, so you can walk everywhere, which I love. I love going to l'Opera in the Place Saint George in Central Toulouse to have the best pizza, sit outside in the sun and watch Mael play on the playground. It is the perfect place to eat with kids.
I love to go to Monoprix for cute and very affordable kid’s clothes (I missed it when I was in the UK), and walk in the city to find some nice shops for me, such as Sandro (my favourite brand). Then finish the afternoon with a nice piece of banoffee pie at "L'Autre Salon de The" and a trip to "La Droguerie", a cool place for ribbons, pearls and fabrics.
Most of the weekend we are away as Toulouse is near the sea and near the mountain. We usually go to my parents place in Gers where I grew up. It’s the best place to be during summer for nice evenings with friends and family, enjoying a meal or for the Jazz in Marciac Festival.
WHAT/WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
The things that inspire me most come from my day to day life with my kids and husband. Places I go, things I read and the things I see around me inspire me. Together these inspire Creme Anglaise.
FIVE THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT
My kids and husband. M&M's…I love chocolate. My weekends away. My friends and family. And my blackberry.
