CHIC MAMA: SAMANTHA YANKS

NAME: Samantha Yanks

OCCUPATION: Editor-in-Chief of Hamptons Magazine and Gotham Magazine

RESIDENCE: West Village and Bridgehampton, NY

YOUR PERSONAL STYLE: Effortless yet sophisticated. I move from playgroup to photo shoots to cocktail parties and events so my look has to be equal parts elegance and comfort. Transitional items like great structured blazers and cashmere wraps are my favorites. I simply switch from flats to heels, add some divine jewelry and I'm ready for the next destination.

FAVORITE FASHION DESIGNERS: Marni, Nili Lotan (and they just opened in East Hampton I could not be happier), Alexander Wang, Ralph Lauren, Reed Krakoff and Devi Kroell.

MY STYLE ICON IS: Ever changing! Grace Kelly for her refined and classic style, Edie Beale for her individuality and flair. Right now, I am loving the wardrobe on the cast of Mad Men, they are my fictional style icons.

I AM OBSESSED WITH: Interior Design.  I just signed on to be a curator for Joss+Main and I am in inSIDER for V&M.

FAVORITE ACCESSORY: I have a long gold link necklace that has charms I have collected over the years.  I love the sound of the charms clinking together and the memories associated with each one. Also I have to say my collection of snake inspired jewelry for Jennifer Miller.

IF WE PEEKED IN YOUR HANDBAG, WE WOULD FIND: Tons of green pencils (that is the color I make my notes with on the magazine pages before they go to press), a ring lizard mini journal from Burberry, my iPhone, a random assortment of snacks for Sadie, thank you notes from her birthday that I am way behind on, a Fendi Selleria wallet brimming with receipts and business cards, an Hermès Engraved 2004 Commemorative Palladium key ring with my house keys on it, a C. Wonder electric blue nylon makeup bag with all of my essential beauty products in it like Bite lip gloss (ladies it is the best!), sketches of products and projects I am working on like my jewelry line with Jennifer Miller and a baby line I am collaborating on.  Also pages of color print outs to select items for curations I am working on for Joss & Main and V & M.

YOUR GUILTIEST PLEASURES: The Tatewich which is an ice cream sandwich made with Tate's cookies from the Hamptons, frites along with steamed mussles at Balthazar (I always think I will get a salad instead but their fries are made in duck fat, it's hard to say no), a glass of Sancerre and TV-wise pretty much anything Andy Cohen is attached to.

FIVE THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT: My iPhone camera (I take an extreme amount of photos of everything superlux that I spy), exercising (spinning at Flywheel Sports, core fusion at Exhale and paddle boarding), laughing with my family, fresh flowers (picked from garden or arrangements from Belle Fleur in New York City or Pennington's in Southampton and my engagement ring (I fainted in Fred Leighton when my husband and I were looking at it, as you can imagine I had to have it)

I CAN'T WAIT TO... Go on an expedition Machu Picchu.  My husband and I have a vacation planned for September to Peru.  After producing a weekly magazine for the summer I always need a fantastic trip to a faraway location.

NAME + AGE OF YOUR CHILD: Sadie, she just turned 5 in April.

YOUR CHILD'S HOBBIES OF THE MOMENT: Gardening, cooking (she's really very good at prep work) ballet, soccer, singing, dancing and swimming.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A MOMMMY: I have to say the greatest joy of motherhood is having a daughter who I love to spend time with.  She's wickedly funny and also entertaining.

FAVORITE FAMILY WEEKEND ACTIVITY: If we're in the city we wander around and always go to brunch together or an early dinner. Balthazar is a family favorite.  So are Morandi, Otto and Charlie Moms for Chinese food. On the weekends we just love being at the beach or jumping, over and over and over again into the pool.

FAVORITE FAMILY VACATION SPOT: We started a tradition with my husband's friends from college around the holidays in December.  We all meet with our children in Scottsdale Arizona and visit the Phoenix zoo, swim and the kids have sleepovers in each others' rooms.  We have enough kids with us that we look like a small summer camp when we're all together.

YOUR KIDS FAVORITE MEAL: You might think I am kidding but our daughter loves steamers when we are out at the beach.  We just had them last night at Bostwick's Chowder House. Steamers and then soft serve ice cream.  That's the magic meal.

FAVORITE LABELS IN YOUR KID'S CLOSET: I love Bonnie Young for special occasions, Pink Chicken, everything at Yoya in the West Village and Les Petite Chapelais in Soho, Bonpoint, Petite Bateau, Lindsey Berns and a shop in Sag Harbor called Marie Eiffel makes the loveliest dresses for girls.

TOP 3 GO-TO CHILDREN'S BIRTHDAY GIFTS: Sadie's favorite book/board game, fun kid's costume jewelry, superlux sequined ballet flats.

I HOPE MY CHILD... She's got moxie.  I hope she never loses that.  I imagine she won't.

Thanks Samantha!
